Traveling feeds the soul and I’m hungry. I’m leaving for a two week trip to Asia next week and it’s got me thinking about my old trips (like this pic from Uruguay). Specifically it reminded me that traveling is my number one recommendation for everyone before they start medical school or residency. Since finishing med school I’ve visited Thailand 🇹🇭, Cambodia 🇰🇭, Colombia 🇨🇴, Argentina 🇦🇷, Uruguay 🇺🇾, England 🏴, and France 🇫🇷. If you want to travel then make it a priority and do it! In the meantime, check out my blog post on what to do before starting med school and residency!! Link in bio
Happy Saturday y’all!! So, yesterday I shared about a “high point” during hubby’s Residency, but today I’m going to share about a Low. Also, this is something that a lot of women face no matter what career they or their partners have.... It was 7:30 before a fully booked Saturday for me at the spa. 8 clients waiting for me to come in and take care of their skin and their muscles for the day. Tony had long call in the CCU that day which meant he wasn’t getting home until 11am the next day and then promptly going to sleep until 5pm. 🙎🏻♀️The babysitter usually arrived right at 7:30am so that I could walk out the door and get to work on time. But she wasn’t there. 7:45 rolled around and still no babysitter. I texted, I called, got her voicemail, nothing. 🙅🏻♀️She never showed. I sat on the floor in our apartment and just cried. I had to call into work. There was nothing I could do- I didn’t have anyone to call at the last minute to take care of Isla (Everly wasn’t born yet!), and there was no way Tony could call in because as you know hospitals are short staffed as it is. His patients are life or death, and mine simply weren’t. 🤦🏻♀️All of my clients had to be cancelled or moved to other therapists for the day. In my industry as a therapist, this is something that can make or break you. If you aren’t consistently reliable and showing up for your clients they will see someone else!
🤷🏻♀️I felt horrible to be letting them down as well as creating a situation for my employers and colleagues to call everyone and try to move appointments. The only time I ever call into work is if I have a stomach flu! That’s it! It has to be an absolute emergency. Even if the girls are sick, unless they are severely ill and need only Mama, usually they can get through a fever with a cold for a few hours without me. 🤷🏻♀️Friends, this is what it looks like when the balance gets thrown off. It happens- life happens, right?! When your SO has a job where if they don’t show, someone could die, it leaves a lot of the family stuff on your shoulders. If you have a career, it’s tricky. Not insurmountable, but tricky. 😘So, like I said, if you are “in it” hang in there!!!!!

A punch leaves man with incredible star shaped cataract. It's very common for cataracts to form after the eye takes a hit. Punches and the balls used in sports are most often the cause, but bumps from air bags and steering wheels have also created cataracts. When the eyeball is struck, the energy of the blow sends shock waves through the eye that can disrupt the nature of the eye's lens, causing it to become opaque(not transparent) in regions. In most cases, cataracts look more like a vaguely shaped cloud, and can be white or yellowish. #medicine#biology#biochemistry#life
